Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Adjustments
Fig. 20 Selector lever pin to detent plate clearance adjustment:
Gearshift Control Cable
With selector lever in Neutral position, adjust clearance between detent plate and pin at end of selector lever, if necessary, Fig. 20. Clearance between pin and detent plate should be .008-.035 inch. To adjust, loosen set screw, then depress selector lever knob and rotate until clearance is obtained. When adjustment is completed, the button on the gear shift lever knob should be positioned toward the driver's seat.
Fig. 21 Gearshift control cable adjustment:
Place selector lever in the Neutral position, then remove cotter pin and rotate manual control cable adjusting nut to remove slack, Fig. 21. After completing adjustment, install cotter pin.
Fig. 22 Throttle cable adjustment:
Throttle Control Cable
1. Place carburetor throttle lever in the curb idle position.
2. Raise throttle cable cover ``B'' upward, then loosen cable lower mounting bracket bolt, Fig. 22.
3. Move cable lower mounting bracket until clearance between nipple and top of cable cover ``A'' is .038-.042 inch, then torque cable lower mounting bracket bolt to 9-10.5 ft-lbs.
4. With throttle lever in the wide open position, pull throttle cable upward to ensure that cable has freedom of movement.
Fig. 23 Kickdown band adjustment:
Kickdown Band, Adjust
1. Remove snap ring from kickdown servo cover, then the cover.
2. Loosen locknut, then, holding kickdown servo piston from turning, torque adjusting screw to 7 ft-lbs. and then back off screw, Fig. 23.
3. Torque adjusting screw to 3.5 ft-lbs, then back off screw 3.5 turns.
4. Prevent adjusting screw from turning and torque locknut to 11-15 ft-lbs.
5. Install new seal ring in groove in outside surface of cover.
6. Install cover and snap ring.
Fig. 24 Line pressure adjustment:
Line Pressure, Adjust
1. Drain fluid and remove oil pan.
2. Disconnect throttle control cable from throttle cam.
3. Remove oil filter and filter plate.
4. Remove valve body assembly. Do not drop manual valve.
5. Adjust line pressure by turning adjusting screw at regulator valve. Turning screw counterclockwise increases line pressure and turning clockwise decreases line pressure. One turn of adjusting screw changes pressure 3.7 psi, Fig. 24.
6. Install valve body assembly, then the groove of manual valve onto manual control shaft detent plate pin.
7. Torque valve body attaching bolts to 7.5-8.5 ft-lbs.
8. Install filter plate, gasket and oil filter. Torque filter bolts to 4-5 ft-lbs.
9. Connect throttle cable to throttle cam, then install new oil pan gasket, and oil pan. Torque oil pan bolts to 7.5-8.5 ft-lbs.
10. Refill transaxle with proper lubricant.
