SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Subject model vehicle may exhibit a cold sag and/or a cold hesitation immediately after shifting gears. The condition will be most noticeable with a cold engine, in cold ambients, during wide open throttle acceleration.

PARTS REQUIRED

Modulator Kit PN MD102147

Consists of:

1 Modulator PN MD102148
1 Wiring Harness PN MD102149

Must be ordered separately:

1 Authorized Modification Label PN 4275086

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair consists of installing a modulator on top of the ECI unit.

1. Remove the black plastic ECI cover from under the heater housing.

2. Remove the ECI unit and its mounting bracket as an assembly by removing the bracket from the heater housing.

3. Disconnect the wiring harness from the ECI unit and the ground wire from the mounting bracket.

4. Attach wiring harness, PN MD102149, to both the ECI and the modulator, PN MD102148.

5. Install the modulator on top of the ECI unit and re-attach the ECI and bracket assembly onto the heater housing. Reconnect the vehicle wiring harness to the ECI and to the new wiring harness, PN MD102149, previously attached to the modulator in Step 4 above.

IMPORTANT: BE SURE THE GROUNDING WIRE IS SECURED TO THE ECI BRACKET OR THE CAR WILL EXPERIENCE DRIVEABILITY PROBLEMS, AND DAMAGE TO SOLID STATE COMPONENTS MAY OCCUR (SEE FIGURE 1).
6. Re-attach black plastic ECI cover to heater housing.

7. Attach Authorized Modification Label, PN 4275086, as illustrated in Figure 2.
