Four Wheel Drive Models
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove radiator reservoir tank, then disconnect speedometer cable, back-up light harness and shift linkage.
3. Remove select control valves and connectors.
4. Remove transaxle electrical harness connectors.
5. Disconnect clutch hydraulic line from transaxle bracket, then remove slave cylinder. Cap lines to prevent leakage and entry of dirt.
6. Remove vacuum reservoir tank.
7. Disconnect starter motor wiring harness, then remove five upper engine to transaxle attaching bolts.
8. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front tires, lower plate and cover.
9. Drain transmission and transfer case oil into suitable container.
10. Remove rear drive shaft, then the transfer case extension housing.
11. Remove front drive shafts. Refer to "Front Suspension and Steering" for procedure.
12. Disconnect right side lower control arm strut bar, then remove right fender under cover.
13. Support transaxle with suitable jack.
14. Remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then the bellhousing cover attaching bolts.
15. Remove transaxle mounting bracket insulator bolt, then the transaxle mounting bracket bolts.
16. Move transaxle/transfer case assembly towards right side of vehicle.
17. Tilt right side of transfer case downwards until transfer case is moved to upper part of the cylinder tube of rack housing, then rotate transaxle/transfer case assembly to the left and remove from vehicle.

18. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Torque attaching bolts to specifications given in.
b. After installation, bleed hydraulic clutch assembly.
c. Refill transaxle and transfer case.
