Fig. 6 Transmission to engine bolt torque specifications:





1. Remove battery and battery tray.
2. Remove radiator reservoir tank and air cleaner.
3. Disconnect clutch cable, speedometer cable and back-up lamp wiring harness from transaxle.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter, then remove 5 upper transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
5. Remove select control valve and switch harness, then the starter.
6. Disconnect engine wiring harness, then the battery cable at transaxle.
7. Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels and drain transaxle oil.
8. Remove extension, shift control rod and selector control cable from under engine compartment.
9. Remove stabilizer bar and strut bar from lower arm.
10. Remove drive shafts. Refer to "Front Suspension and Steering" for procedure.
11. Using a suitable jack, support lower part of transaxle over a wide area so as not to damage oil pan.
12. Remove bellhousing cover.
13. Remove lower transaxle to engine attaching bolts, then the transaxle mount insulator bolt.
14. Slide transaxle to the right, then lower and remove from vehicle.
15. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque bolts as follows: transaxle mounting bracket bolt, 22-30 ft. lbs.; 8 14 mm bellhousing cover to transaxle attaching bolts, 7-9 ft. lbs.; 820 mm bellhousing cover to transaxle attaching bolts, 11-16 ft. lbs.; extension to transaxle bolt, 43-51 ft. lbs.; starter mounting bolt, 16-23 ft. lbs.; back-up lamp switch, 22 ft. lbs.; drain plug, 22-25 ft. lbs.; filler plug, 7-8 ft. lbs.; driveshaft nuts, 144-188 ft. lbs.; and engine to transaxle attaching bolts as shown.
b. Fill transaxle to specifications with suitable fluid.
c. Adjust clutch cable, gearshift lever, and range selector lever.
