DR-1A CODE to DR TEST Chart (Checking for Fault Codes)
1. Connect diagnostic read-out tool to engine test connector.
2. Within five seconds, cycle ignition switch On and Off twice, then place ignition switch in the On position and record all fault codes. If code sequence is 15, 17, 21, 47, 51 or 52 or if no code 88 is indicated, proceed to step 9 and perform tests indicated.
3. Turn ignition switch off, then erase fault codes by disconnecting and connecting battery electrical connector.
4. Start engine and run for 2 minutes. Do not depress accelerator pedal to start engine.
5. Increase engine speed to 2000 RPM for ten seconds, then return to idle.
6. Shift transmission through all gear ranges and cycle A/C button on and off, then turn engine off.
7. Within five seconds, cycle ignition on and off twice, then turn on and record all codes.
8. If codes displayed are the same as those in step 2, proceed to step 9 and perform tests indicated. If codes are not repeated, proceed to Test 1 step L.
9. Initiate the appropriate diagnosis for the following fault code displays:
a. Code sequence 88-12-55 indicates no fault codes are present. Proceed to Test 1 step B.
b. Code sequence 88-12-13-55, 88-12-14-55 or 88-12-13-14-55 indicates a fault in the MAP sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 2.
c. Code sequence 88-12-15-55 indicates a fault in the speed sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 3.
d. Code sequence 88-12-16-55 indicates a fault in the battery voltage for charging system. Proceed to Test 4.
e. Code sequence 88-12-17-55 indicates engine running too cool. Check cooling system thermostat and replace as required.
f. Code sequence 88-12-21-55 indicates a fault in the oxygen sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 5.
g. Code sequence 88-12-22-55 or 88-12-17-22-55 indicates a fault in the engine coolant sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 6.
h. Code sequence 88-12-23-55 indicates a fault in the throttle body temperature sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 7.
i. Code sequence 88-12-24-55 indicates a fault in the throttle position sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 8.
j. Code sequence 88-12-25-55 indicates a fault in the idle motor circuit. Proceed to Test 9.
k. Code sequence 88-12-31-55 indicates a fault in the purge solenoid circuit. Proceed to Test 10.
l. Code sequence 88-12-33-55 indicates a fault in the A/C cutout relay circuit. Proceed to Test 11.
m. Code sequence 88-12-35-55 indicates a fault in the radiator fan relay circuit. Proceed to Test 12.
n. Code sequence 88-12-37-55 indicates a fault in the shift indicator lamp circuit. Refer to Test 13.
o. Code sequence 88-12-41-46-55 or 88-12-46-55 indicates charging system output too high. Proceed to Test 14.
p. Code sequence 88-12-41-55 or 88-12-41-47-55 indicates charging system output too low. Proceed to Test 15.
q. Code sequence 88-12-44-55 indicates fault in battery temperature sensor circuit. Proceed to Test 16.
r. Code sequence 88-12-51-55 or 88-12-52-55 indicates a fault in the oxygen feedback system circuit. Proceed to Test 17.
s. Code sequence 88-12-47-55 indicates fault in alternator system. Check drive belt, battery and alternator system.
t. Code sequence 88-12-53-55 indicates a faulty logic module which must be replaced.
u. No code 88, indicates no battery voltage for logic module stand-by memory. Check battery feed wire to terminal No. 2 of logic module black electrical connector for open circuit and repair as necessary.
