Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Adjustments

Fig. 22 Throttle cable adjustment:

THROTTLE CONTROL CABLE

1. Place carburetor throttle lever in curb idle position, then idle engine until coolant reaches normal operating temperature (180-190°F).
2. Raise throttle cable cover B, Fig. 22, and expose nipple, then loosen lower cable bracket attaching bolt.
3. Adjust cable bracket until distance between top of cover A and nipple is 0.04 - 0.02 inch, Fig. 22.
4. Torque lower cable bracket attaching bolt to 9-10.5 ft-lbs, then check cable for freedom of movement with throttle lever in wide open position.

INHIBITOR SWITCH

1. Place manual control lever in Neutral position, then turn inhibitor switch body until end ``A,'' Fig. 31, of manual control lever overlaps switch body flange.
2. Torque two attaching bolts to 7.5-8.5 ft-lbs ensure not to dislocate switch body.

Fig. 32 Adjusting line pressure. KM 171 & 172 models:

LINE PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT

1. With selector lever in Neutral, and parking brake set, attach a suitable tachometer to engine.
2. Attach tool No. MD998330 to line pressure take off port using tool No. MD998332.
3. Start and idle engine, then place selector lever in Drive range and operate at 2500 RPM.
4. Line pressure should read 98-100 psi with throttle control cable on transaxle side in wide open position.
5. Manually pull throttle control cable from inside engine compartment, then check line pressure.
6. If line pressure is out of specifications, proceed to step 7.
7. Drain transaxle, then remove oil pan.
8. Disconnect throttle control cable from cam, then disconnect solenoid connector from case.
9. Remove valve body assembly, using care not to damage manual valve.
10. Adjust line pressure by turning adjusting screw at regulator valve, Fig. 32. Turning adjusting screw counterclockwise will increase line pressure and clockwise will decrease line pressure. One turn of adjusting screw will change line pressure 3.7 psi.
11. Ensure O-ring is installed at top of valve body, then install accumulator springs.
12. Install valve body, fitting groove of manual valve on manual control shaft detent plate pin.
13. Insert valve body attaching bolts, then torque to 7.5-8.5 ft-lbs.
14. Install oil filter, then insert attaching bolts and torque to 4-5 ft-lbs.
15. Connect throttle control cable to cam, then insert solenoid connector.
16. Install oil pan with new gasket, then fill transaxle to specifications.
