Code Descriptions & Possible Causes

These fault codes indicate the result of a failure, but do not identify the failed component in the following areas:
Code 88--Start of test.
Code 11--1986-88 models, Engine not cranked since battery was disconnected.
Code 11--On 1989 models, no distributor reference during engine cranking.
Code 12--Memory Standby power lost.
Code 13--MAP sensor pneumatic circuit.*
Code 14--MAP sensor electrical circuit.*
Code 15--Vehicle speed/distance sensor.
Code 16--Loss of battery voltage sensor.*
Code 17--Engine running too cool.
Code 21--Oxygen sensor circuit.
Code 22--Coolant temperature sensor circuit.*
Code 23--Throttle body temperature sensor circuit.
Code 24--Throttle position sensor.*
Code 25--AIS motor driven circuit.
Code 26--Peak injector current not reached.
Code 27--On 1986-87 models, internal problem in logic module fuel circuit.
Code 27--On 1988-89 models, fuel injector control problem.
Code 31--Purge solenoid circuit.
Code 32--On 1988-89 Calif. models, EGR diagnosis.
Code 33--A/C cutout relay circuit.
Code 34--On 1988-89 models, speed control solenoid driver circuit.

Code 55--End of message.
Code 62--On 1989 models, EMR mileage accumulation.
Code 63--On 1989 models, fault Code error.

Codes indicated by an * will cause the power loss/check engine lamp to remain illuminated.
On 1986---87 models, test continuity of wiring in each circuit indicated by fault codes or in other circuit tests for logic and power module terminal identification. On 1988-89 models, test continuity of wiring in each circuit indicated by fault codes or in other circuit tests SMEC terminal identification. On all models, repair wiring as needed and check operation of components as outlined in ``Description.'' Replace any components that fail to perform properly, then recheck system operation.
