CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS RECALL # 472 -- HC AND CO EMISSIONS AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD

^ This recall applies only to 1986 and 1987 Model Year Plymouth and Dodge Colt Vista 2WD vehicles equipped with a 2.OL carbureted engine and California emissions control system.

^ The following service steps are required:

^ Install new spark plugs and clean carburetor.

^ Test carburetor feedback system and replace jet mixture solenoid valve if necessary.

^ Install carburetor choke shim.

^ Clean EGR and sub-EGR valves and passages.

^ Inspect exhaust manifold for leaks and replace if necessary.

^ Adjust idle speeds and basic ignition timing.

^ Adjust transmission throttle control cable (automatic transmission vehicles).

^ Install intermediate electrical harness to the Carburetor Control Unit (CCU).

^ Install recall completion label.

^ The California Air Resources Board (CARB) will be performing an audit of vehicles serviced for this recall.

Failure to perform all steps of the recall service procedure completely and accurately may cause emissions noncompliance. Furthur, CARB considers failure to properly perform emissions recall procedures to be a violation which may subject the servicing dealer to a significant fine.

^ A service procedure checklist is provided on the reverse side of the Instruction Sheet included with the Emissions Service Parts Packages -- PN C3940386 (Manual) and PN C3940387 (Automatic). The servicing technician should complete, sign and date the checklist, to be retained by the dealership as a permanent record of recall service completion.

^ Non-California Dealers will also receive copies of these recall instructions by Compak Mail. Some involved vehicles may have been relocated outside of California, and the instructions will allow dealers to perform this service on such vehicles upon request. Non-California dealers must order the necessary parts as needed.
