CHECKING FLUID LEVEL
With vehicle on level surface, start engine and operate at idle speed. With parking brake applied and selector lever in neutral, remove dipstick and check fluid level. Transaxle should be at normal operating temperature when checking fluid level (120-180°F). Fluid level should be between lines on dipstick. If necessary, add fluid of the type labeled Dexron or Dexron II to bring fluid level to within hot lines on dipstick.
CHANGING FLUID
1. Raise and support vehicle, then place a suitable container under fluid drain plug.
2. Remove drain plug and allow fluid to drain, then place drainage container under oil pan.
3. Loosen oil pan attaching bolts, then tap one corner of pan to loosen seal and allow remainder of fluid to drain.
4. Clean drain plug, then install it with new gasket and torque plug to 22-25 ft-lbs.
5. Clean mating surfaces of oil pan and transaxle case, then install pan with new gasket.
6. Insert oil pan attaching bolts, then torque to 7.5-8.5 ft-lbs.
7. Add 4.2 quarts of Dexron or Dexron II type automatic transmission fluid through dipstick opening.
8. Start and idle engine for approximately 2 minutes, then apply parking brake and move selector lever to each position, ending in N.
9. Add transmission fluid as necessary to bring fluid level to lower mark on dipstick, then recheck after normal operating temperature has been reached.
10. If necessary, add fluid to bring level to between hot marks on dipstick, then replace dipstick.
