Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.

2. Remove cluster bezel as follows:
a. Remove four attaching screws located along upper edge of bezel.
b. Place gearshift indicator in L (1) position.
c. Remove bezel by pulling rearward and releasing four lower fastener clips.
3. Remove 12 cowl top cover and trim panel assembly attaching screws located as follows:
a. Three from lower right of trim pad.
b. One from lower right side of instrument cluster.
c. One from lower left side of instrument cluster.
d. Three from trim pad brow above cluster.
e. Four from cowl top in defroster openings.

4. Disconnect wiring for glove box light and trunk lid release switch, if equipped.
5. Remove cowl top cover and trim panel assembly from instrument panel.
6. Remove steering column cover as follows:
a. Remove left vent control, if equipped, from bottom of cover and allow to hang down.
b. Remove hood release handle from bottom of cover.
c. Remove six attaching screws, then the cover.

7. Remove floor brace cover by spreading end flanges, then pulling cover rearward.
8. Pull carpet away from instrument panel floor brace, remove four attaching nuts, then the brace.
9. Remove left lower reinforcement attaching screws from left side cowl.
10. Remove two attaching nuts from center support.
11. Disconnect wiring from chime module and intermittent wiper module, if equipped.
12. Slide fuse box off of mounting bracket, then remove flasher from reinforcement.
13. Remove lower left reinforcement.
14. Remove upper panel assembly retaining screws.
15. Remove right side lower kick panel, then loosen lower instrument panel pivot bolt.
16. Remove one nut attaching center support to lower instrument panel assembly.
17. Roll panel down and disconnect electrical connectors.
18. Remove pivot bolt, then the lower instrument panel assembly.
19. Reverse procedure to install, positioning steering column cover into place and indexing to lower instrument panel. Torque steering column cover mounting screws to 170---230 inch lbs.
20. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ARMING/DISARMING to reactivate airbag.
