How to Use the Service Manual
GENERAL INFORMATIONMany new additions have been made to the diagnostic manual. The addition of three dimensional connector views (when possible), a system schematic, and an adjustments section. Please notice that the schematic at the top of the graphic page does not show all of the connector locations. Refer to the Service Manual for location and connector shapes.
ORGANIZATION OF SECTIONS
This section is divided up into the following sections:
- Visual Inspection
- No Start Tests
- Driveability Tests
- Adjustments
There are separate sections for the 1.8L and 2.0L engines. Tests are numbered sequentially, however test which do not apply to a certain engine are omitted. For example, DRIVEABILITY TEST 14 does not apply to 1.8L engines and is not visable if you choose the 2.0L engine.
RECOMMENDED SECTION USAGE (Where to Being Diagnosis)
1. Engine will not start or not stay running.
- Visual Inspection
- No Start Tests - test numbers begin with NS
2. Engine runs with performance problems
- Visual Inspection
- Driveability Test - test numbers begin with DR
Please note that the test flowcharts are primarily electrical tests and mechanical failures cannot be overlooked. Therefore, "No Fault Code Tests" and mechanical tests are important and begin with Test DR-15.
It is not necessary to perform all tests in each section for every problem. Selection of what section to use will be determined by the technician's initial analysis and customer's description of problem.
