Removal and Replacement

Fig. 9 Transaxle Assembly Removal:





Refer to Fig. 9 during replacement procedures.
1. Remove righthand under cover, then drain transaxle oil and clutch fluid.
2. Remove drain and filler plugs, then the air cleaner, battery and battery tray.
3. Disconnect clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line, shift cable, select cable, back-up light electrical connector, ground cable and speedometer cable.
4. Remove starter motor, then disconnect stabilizer bar.
5. Disconnect tie rod ends and lower ball joints using steering linkage puller MB991113 or equivalent, then insert a pry bar between transaxle case and drive shaft and pry drive shaft from transaxle. Secure to body with wire.
6. Mark bottom of roll rod for reference during installation, then remove.
7. Support transaxle assembly on a suitable transaxle jack, remove mount bracket, then move assembly to right, lower and remove from vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Torque attaching bolts to specifications.
