Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.

2. Remove instrument panel top cover as follows:
a. Remove two screws from outer edge of defroster openings.
b. Pry rear edge of cover up, then disengage cover-to-panel retaining clips.
c. Remove cover by lifting up and pulling to rear.
3. Remove side cowl trim panels (left and right) as follows:
a. Remove two trim panel attaching screws.
b. Remove forward-most scuff plate attaching screw.
c. Remove panels by rotating lower edge inward and forward.
4. Loosen instrument panel pivot bolts (left and right side).
5. Remove one nut attaching instrument panel to A/C heater unit bracket, located on lower left side of glove box under instrument panel.
6. Remove instrument cluster assembly as follows:
a. Remove four cluster bezel attaching screws, then the bezel.
b. Remove four screws attaching cluster to base panel.
c. Pull cluster rearward, then disconnect speedometer cable and wiring connectors.
7. Move driver's seat to full rearward position.

8. Lower steering column as follows:
a. Remove four bolts attaching steering column to brake pedal bracket.
b. Lower steering column, then allow steering wheel to rest on driver's seat.
9. Remove two bolts attaching steering column support bracket to brake pedal bracket.

10. Disconnect steering column wiring connectors.
11. Disconnect stop lamp switch connector.

12. Remove bulkhead disconnect as follows:
a. From engine compartment side, loosen bolt joining bulkhead disconnect.
b. From under instrument panel, depress holding tabs on bulkhead disconnect, then pull free of plenum.
13. Remove two attaching nuts, then the fuse block from left side cowl.

14. Disconnect cowl wiring (left and right sides).
15. Remove four bolts attaching instrument panel to windshield fence.

16. Rotate instrument panel rearward and down.

17. Disconnect A/C heater unit vacuum harness.
18. Disconnect A/C heater unit control cable.

19. Disconnect radio antenna from radio, then remove cable from instrument panel wiring clips.
20. Remove one attaching nut, then disconnect radio ground strap from plenum.

21. Disconnect blower motor wiring, then disconnect resistor block wiring.
22. Lift instrument panel clear of side pivot bolts, then remove from vehicle.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
