Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Functional Operation

When the ignition is ON, the display panel of the travel module responds as the driver selects one of the five trip conditions being monitored.

The US/MET button converts the displayed readouts to either U.S. or Metric units.

The STEP button allows the driver to cycle through the displayed conditions. When the ignition is turned on, the last traveler condition selected will be displayed.

To reset the display, push the STEP and US/MET buttons simultaneously and the three resettable conditions will be reset. This will occur only if a resettable function is currently being displayed. The five trip conditions, plus an example of how they will appear on the display panel, are described in the text that follows.

TRIP ODOMETER - The display will show the accumulated trip miles since the last reset. (57.3 MI ODO). The maximum displayed mileage will be 999.9 miles. When this mileage is reached, the trip display will automatically reset to zero. To reset, push the STEP and US/MET buttons simultaneously. Push STEP button to display.

AVERAGE MILES PER GALLON (ECO) - Two related functions can be displayed in the ECO mode (38.4 AVG ECO MPG). The first display indicates the average fuel economy obtained since the last reset. The average economy will be updated and displayed every 16 seconds. To reset, push the STEP and US/MET buttons simultaneously. Push STEP button to display.

MILES PER GALLON (ECO) - A second function of the ECO mode is to display current fuel economy in miles per gallon or liters per 100 Kilometers (46.3 MPG ECO) Fuel economy is based on fuel usage over the past few seconds of driving and will be updated and displayed every two seconds. This function is not resettable. Push STEP button to display.

DISTANCE TO EMPTY (DTE) - The display will indicate the estimated number of miles that can be driven with the fuel remaining (267 MI DTE). The distance is calculated by multiplying the amount of fuel remaining by the projected fuel economy. The distance predicted will change every few seconds to a higher or lower number as these factors change. This function is not resettable. Push STEP button to display.

ELAPSED TIME (ET) - The display will indicate up to 99 hours and 59 minutes of "ignition on" time (1:24 ET). The timer stops when the ignition is turned off and then continues to accumulate elapsed time when the ignition is again turned on. For the first hour after reset the display will show minutes and seconds, then it will switch to hours and minutes. To reset, push the STEP and US/MET buttons simultaneously.
