NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO 2.OL DOHC, 1.6L DOHC, 2.OL SOHC AND
2.4L SOHC MMC ENGINES BUILT PRIOR TO ENGINE NUMBER LX8939.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some engines may exhibit a whining noise when the engine is cold and running at 1800- 2000 RPM.


DIAGNOSIS:


Check the engine number to ensure it was built prior to LX8939, (The engine number is located on the engine block toward the front of the vehicle on BD, B2, B3, and B8 and on the right side of the engine block on B4). Start the engine cold and hold the engine speed at 1800-2000 RPM and listen for an audible whining noise. The whining noise can be eliminated by replacing the front case assembly and both the drive and driven oil pump gears.

This repair procedure involves replacing the front case assembly and oil pump drive and driven gears.


Refer to the appropriate service manual for the front case and oil pump gear replacement procedures.
