Tachometer: Testing and Inspection
1. Remove cluster.
2. Check for battery voltage at cavity A of the instrument cluster black connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON and check for voltage at cavity C of the instrument cluster black connector.
4. Check cavity H of the black connector for continuity to ground.
5. Check for tachometer signal from the engine controller by connecting an AC digital voltmeter between cavity B of the instrument cluster black connector and ground. A reading of at least 1.0 volts should be present while the engine is running.
^ If voltage is within specifications, go to step 7.
6. If there is less than 1.0 volts at cavity B, check for continuity between cavity B of the instrument cluster and pin 43 of the engine controller connector.
^ If continuity is good and no pins or terminals are damaged, replace the engine controller.
Tachometer Drive Module And Low Fuel Relay:
7. If all tests performed good, replace the tachometer drive module.
8. If the tachometer continues to be inoperative, replace the tachometer assembly.
