Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

Fig. 29 Evaporator Core Replacement:





1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
2. Remove canister from canister bracket in engine compartment and set aside, then disconnect liquid pipe and suction hose and cap fittings.
3. Remove evaporator drain hose, then the glove box assembly.
4. Remove lap heater duct on models less rear heater or shower duct on models with rear heater.
5. Remove righthand cowl side trim, speaker cover and knee protector.
6. Remove glove box frame, then disconnect electrical connector from evaporator.
7. Remove evaporator assembly.
8. Remove clips attaching case halves, then disconnect expansion valve flare nut and remove evaporator core from case.
9. Reverse procedure to install. Apply compressor oil to O-rings and expansion valve of evaporator assembly.
