Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes
1. Using the special tool (diagnostic trouble code check harness), connect the diagnostic test mode control terminal (terminal 1) of the data link connector to the ground.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Read the diagnostic output on the basis of the ON-OFF cycles of the check engine/malfunction indicator lamp.
4. Repair the problem location, referring to the diagnostic chart.
5. Erase the diagnostic trouble code by the following procedure.
a. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
b. After removing the battery cable from the battery terminal for 10 seconds or more, reconnect the cable.
c. Turn the ignition switch to ON and read the diagnostic output to check if a normal code is output.
d. Let the warm engine run at idle for 10 minutes.
