Spoiler - Rattles/Water Leaks Into Trunk

Deck Lid Spoiler Rattle and/or Water Leak Into Trunk

MODELS:
1995 (PL) Neon

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLE BUILT PRIOR TO MAY 1, 1995 (MDH 05-O1-XX) WITH FACTORY INSTALLED DECK LID AIR SPOILERS.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

A rattle coming from the trunk area due to the spoiler being loose on the deck lid and/or water leaking into the trunk area from the spoiler mounting holes.

DIAGNOSIS:

If a rattle is suspected from the spoiler, attempt to move the spoiler, by hand, fore and aft and side to side. if loose, proceed to the repair procedure. If a water leak is suspected from the spoiler attachments, close the deck lid and pour water around the spoiler stanchions. Open the deck lid and check to see if water is either dripping off the attachment studs or running down the underside of the deck lid. If a leak is found, proceed to the repair procedure.

4 6504260 Nut & Washer Assembly w/sealer

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves replacing the deck lid spoiler attaching nuts with revised parts containing a new sealing material that is black instead of the beige color used previously.

1. Remove and discard the old deck lid spoiler attaching nuts and remove any sealing material left on the deck lid.

2. Install four new seal nuts, P/N 6504260 and tighten to 50 - 80 In.Lbs. (5 - 9 Nm).

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.
