Steering Column Tilt Lever "Chatter" Noise

MODELS:

1995 (PL) Neon

NOTE:
THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH TILT STEERING COLUMN BUILT PRIOR TO 2/25/94, (MDH 02-25-XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

"Chatter" noise occurs when the steering column tilt lever is released and the column is moved from its full up position to full down position.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 4690327 O-Ring Damper

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This bulletin involves installing an o-ring on the steering column tilt lever cam.

1. Release steering column tilt lever (pull upward).

2. Remove the steering column cover and cover liner as outlined in the 1995 Neon Service Manual (Publication No. 81-270-5025), Page 19-35.

3. Lubricate o-ring, P/N 4690327, with excess grease found on the upper mounting bracket.





4. Slide the o-ring over the tilt lever knob and seat it between the tilt lever cam and black plastic detent ring (See Illustration).

5. Replace the steering column liner and cover.
