Door/Trunk Ajar Indicator/Lamp: Description and Operation
DOOR AJAR SYSTEMDoor/Deck Ajar Lamp: 1997 model year door/deck ajar lamp is located in the instrument cluster and warns the driver of an open door or deck lid condition. The lamp is illuminated when the instrument cluster receives the MIC message from the body controller. The BCM sends the MIC message whenever either door is ajar, the trunk lid is ajar (ajar switch is closed to ground), and as a bulb check (for the first two seconds of each ignition "on" cycle).
The 1999 model year door/deck ajar lamp has been replaced by the words "Door" and "Deck" displayed on the odometer. The "Door" and "Deck" bulb check is performed at ignition on and consists of an odometer display segment test. The door ajar is controlled by a MIC message from the BCM. The "Deck" ajar message is controlled by the MIC that is hardwired directly to the deck lid ajar switch. The deck lid ajar is also wired to the BCM. The hood ajar switch is wired to the BCM for use in the vehicle theft alarm system and does not have a warning lamp.
