Trailing Arm: Service and Repair

REMOVE
1. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist.

NOTE: When removing the center cap from the wheel do not use a sharp or hard tool. Use of such a tool can damage the finish on the wheel and damage the center cap.





2. Remove the center cap from the wheel. Center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into the notch on the center cap and prying it off the wheel.
3. Remove the rear wheel and tire.





4. Remove the nut and bolt attaching the trailing link to the isolator bushing in the rear knuckle.





5. Remove the nut and bolt attaching the trailing link to the frame bracket.
6. Remove the trailing link from the vehicle.

INSTALL
1. Install the trailing link in the mounting bracket on the frame of the vehicle.

NOTE: Install the bolt and nut but do not tighten or torque at this time. The full weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension (vehicle at correct curb height) before tightening the trailing link mounting bolt.

2. Install the bolt and nut attaching the trailing link to the frame rail bracket.
3. Install the trailing link on the rear knuckle.

NOTE: Install the bolt and nut but do not tighten or torque at this time. The full weight of the vehicle must be supported by the suspension (vehicle at correct curb height) before tightening the trailing link mounting bolt.

4. Install the bolt and nut, attaching the trailing link to the rear knuckle
5. Install the wheel and tire.
6. Tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half the specified torque. Then repeat the proper tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.).
7. Lower the vehicle so the full weight of the vehicle is supported by the suspension.
8. Tighten the trailing link to frame bracket mounting bolt to a torque of 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
9. Tighten the trailing link to knuckle mounting bolt to a torque of 163 Nm (120 ft. lbs.).
