Odometer: Description and Operation

The Odometer/transmission Range Indicator is part of the Speedometer and is not serviced separately.

The Odometer/Transmission Range Indicator is used to display vehicle mileage and display shift lever position.

The Odometer receives its signal from the vehicle speed sensor and relays vehicle speed information through the BCM to the odometer display.

The Transmission Range Sensor (TRS), communicates shift lever position to the TCM as a combination of open and closed switches. Each shift lever position has an assigned combination of switch states (open/closed) that the TCM receives from four sense circuits. The TCM interprets transmission gear position and shift schedule. The TCM them relays this information to the Transmission Range Indicator through the BCM.
