Removal and Replacement

REMOVAL - TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY

NOTE: The aluminum wheels used on this vehicle have wheel stud nuts, which feature an enlarged nose. This enlarged nose is necessary to ensure proper retention of the aluminum wheels.

1. Raise the vehicle.

CAUTION: When removing the wheel center cap, do not use a sharp or hard object such as a screw driver to perform the operation. Use of such a tool will mar the finish on the wheel and damage the center cap.

2. Remove the center cap from the wheel. The center cap is removed by inserting a trim stick into the notch on the center cap and prying it oh the wheel.
3. Unthread and remove the five wheel mounting (lug) nuts from the studs.
4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION - TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY
1. Before installing the wheel on the hub, remove any buildup of corrosion on the mounting surface of the wheel and the hub. Installing wheels without good metal-to-metal contact could cause loosening of the wheel nuts. This could adversely affect the safety and handling of the vehicle.

CAUTION: When installing the wheel, never use oil or grease on the threads of the wheel mounting studs or the wheel attaching nuts.

2. Position the tire and wheel assembly over the wheel mounting studs using the hub center pilot as a guide.

3. Thread the five wheel mounting (lug) nuts onto the studs and snug them in the proper sequence.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Progressively tighten the wheel mounting nuts in the proper sequence to half the specified torque. Once completed, using the same sequence, tighten the wheel mounting (lug) nuts to a final torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the center cap on the wheel.
