No Fast Idle W/Cold Engine

1. With ignition switch in Run position and engine off, disconnect electrical connector from engine temperature switch, Fig. 2.
2. Connect jumper wire to both terminals on engine temperature switch connector.
3. Momentarily disconnect and connect fast idle solenoid electrical connector while noting if fast idle solenoid extends.
4. If solenoid does not extend, refer to step 5. If solenoid extends, readjust for correct fast idle operation.
5. Connect one end of suitable test lamp to ground and the other end to white/green lead on models without A/C, or black/pink lead at fast idle solenoid on models with A/C.
6. If test lamp lights, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect electrical connector from fast idle solenoid.
b. Check continuity of fast idle solenoid using suitable self-powered test lamp.
c. If lamp does not light, replace solenoid.
7. If test lamp does not light, proceed as follows:
a. Momentarily connect test light lead to pink/black terminal of engine temperature switch.
b. If test lamp lights, remove connector from switch and check switch for continuity using suitable self-powered test lamp.
c. If test light shuts off below 120° F, replace engine temperature switch.
