Subject: PRODUCT CAMPAIGN RESPONSIBILITIES
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety and Emission Regulations place specific responsibilities upon Pontiac Division and Pontiac dealers in the handling of product campaigns. These regulations not only apply to Pontiac vehicles but all GM vehicles in used car inventory.
Under the terms of article 2.4.1 of the Dealer Sales and Service Agreement it is stated in part, "Dealer will also determine whether campaign inspections and corrections have been made on used General Motors motor vehicles in its inventory and arrange for their performance prior to sale".
When any GM vehicle is taken into used vehicle inventory the following steps should be taken to assure campaign inspection and corrections have been performed:
1. Campaign information on any used GM vehicle can be obtained by using the GM Computerized Recall Information System (CRIS).
2. If the vehicle is a GM make other than Pontiac, arrange with a dealer of the appropriate vehicle nameplate for campaign service before delivery to a customer.
Please refer to the 1986 Pontiac Service Policies and Procedures Manual, Section IV, pages 122-127 for complete product campaign procedures.
