Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove air cleaner duct.
2. Scribe alignment marks on hood and hood hinge, then remove hood.
3. Discharge A/C refrigerant system, then disconnect refrigerant lines.
4. Drain cooling system, then disconnect lower radiator hose.
5. Remove upper fan shroud, then disconnect upper radiator hose and recovery hose.
6. Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines, if equipped, then remove radiator.
7. Remove cooling fan assembly.
8. Disconnect heater hoses, throttle linkage and cruise control cable, if equipped.
9. Disconnect vacuum hose from power brake unit.
10. Remove distributor cap.
11. Remove power steering pump from mounting bracket and position aside with hoses attached.
12. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect exhaust crossover pipe at exhaust manifolds.
13. On models with automatic transmission, remove converter housing cover, then remove torque converter to drive plate attaching bolts.
14. On all models, disconnect wiring from starter motor.
15. On models with manual transmission, remove bell housing to engine bolts.
16. On all models, remove engine mount through bolts, then lower vehicle.
17. Relieve fuel system pressure as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE then disconnect fuel lines.
18. Support transmission using a transmission jack or other suitable support.
19. Remove AIR/converter pipe bracket, if equipped.
20. Attach a suitable engine lifting device to engine, then remove engine from vehicle. When removing engine, detach wire from bracket at left hand rear of engine.
21. Reverse procedure to install.
