NOTE: The fuel pump [52] is located on top of the tank. The fuel sender [54] is installed on the bottom of the tank. See diagram for details.

REMOVAL

1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved, see MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. It is NOT necessary to remove the fuel tank to remove the fuel pump.
4. Raise the rear seat and remove the cover from the vehicle floorpan.
5. Remove the fuel pump assembly [52] by removing the six fuel pump attaching bolts. Lift assembly from the fuel tank. Discard gasket [53].

NOTE: Inspect the fuel pump attaching hose for any signs of deterioration. Also check the fuel pump strainer filter at the bottom of the pump. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.

INSTALLATION

1. Push the fuel pump assembly into the attaching hose.
2. Position the fuel tank sending unit and pump assembly into the fuel tank. Use a new fuel pump gasket [53].

NOTE: Care should be taken not to fold over or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit as this will restrict the flow of fuel.

3. Install the six fuel pump attaching bolts (coated with thread locking compound).
4. Reinstall the floorpan and lower the rear seat.
