Fuel Tank: Service and Repair

Fuel Tank Insulators And Mountings:

Fuel And Vapor Pipes:

Remove or Disconnect:


1. Relieve fuel system pressure
2. Drain fuel tank
3. Raise vehicle on hoist
4. Remove filler neck shield
5. Remove rear axle assembly
6. Remove exhaust pipe and muffler
7. Remove muffler heat shield
8. Disconnect rear fuel feed pipe assembly from fuel sender assembly
9. Disconnect electrical connector
10. Support fuel tank, using an assistant, remove fuel tank strap front attaching bolts and straps
11. Remove fuel tank from vehicle


Install or Connect:
1. Hook rear end of fuel tank straps into underbody bracket
2. Using an assistant, position and support fuel tank. Position fuel tank straps, loosely install front strap attaching bolts.
3. Tighten tank strap bolts
Torque Value: 34 N-m (25 lb.ft.)
4. Connect electrical connector
5. Connect fuel return, vapor and vent hoses and clamps at sender assembly.
6. Install muffler shield
7. Install rear axle assembly
8. Install fuel filler neck shield
9. Lower vehicle
10. Add fuel and install fuel filler cap
11. Connect negative battery cable


Inspect:
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
