System Components
Battery Powered Portable TransmitterThe transmitter unit is battery powered, water resistant, radio frequency signal generator. Two transmitters are provided with the vehicle, and each is uniquely recognized by the RAC module. The module is capable of recognizing only two transmitters, therefore, only two transmitters may be used with any one vehicle. Replacement transmitters for the vehicle may be obtained, however, the RAC module must be reprogrammed to accept new transmitter.
The remote keyless entry system executes the following functions in response to the vehicle operator pressing a transmitter button (the transmitter range is approximately 10 meters (32 feet); the transmitter should be used within this range for consistent operation):
^ Pressing the unlock button once unlocks the driver's door and turns on the interior lamps. If the ignition is "OFF".
^ Pressing the unlock button a second time within twenty-five seconds unlocks all doors (including fuel door lock) and turns on the interior lamps if the ignition is "OFF".
^ Pressing the lock button locks all doors (including fuel door lock) and turns on interior lamps if the ignition is "OFF".
^ Pressing the luggage compartment button releases the luggage compartment lid and turns on the interior lamps.
The remote keyless entry system's transmitters require periodic battery replacement. Battery life under normal operation should be approximately five years. The back side of the transmitter can be removed to provide access to the battery.
Remote Accessory Control (RAC) Module
The RAC module is located behind the right side of the I/P assembly, attached to the multi-use bracket. The module receives and interprets the transmitter signals, then activates the required circuitry to provide the requested function. The RAC module is able to differentiate between the various transmitters, and must be programmed to accept signals from both transmitters if one or both transmitters are replaced.
