Steering Column - Removal and Installation

REMOVAL
Wheels must be in a straight forward position and the key must be in the Lock position when removing or installing column to ensure proper alignment of components during installation.
1. Remove inflator module as outlined in Air Bag. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags(SRS).
2. Disconnect park lock cable from ignition switch inhibitor, if applicable.
3. Remove bolt and nut from upper intermediate shaft clamp, Fig. 7.
4. Remove knee bolster, bracket and screws attaching toe pan cover to cowl.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors and remove column support bracket to instrument panel attaching nuts.
6. Remove steering column from vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Install steering column into vehicle, then connect park lock cable to ignition switch inhibitor.
2. Install capsule nuts attaching column support bracket to instrument panel.
3. Install clamp attaching intermediate shaft to steering column, torque nut to 44 lb ft
4. Install toe pan cover to cowl attaching screws and connect electrical connectors.
5. Install knee bolster, bracket and sound insulator panel.
6. Connect coil assembly to inflator module, then install inflator module and torque screws to 25 lb in
7. Install left side sound insulator.
