Scan Tool Data Definitions: Overview
The data messages displayed on the scan tool are divided into ENGINE and SPECIFIC ENGINE lists as follows:Engine Data
- ENG 1 - Contains general information regarding fuel delivery and basic engine operating conditions.
- ENG 2 - Contains general information regarding Ignition control (IC), Knock Sensor (KS), EVAP, A/C, and basic engine operating conditions.
Specific Engine Data
- EGR Data - Contains information specific to the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system flow diagnostics and the EGR valve pintle position sensor diagnostics. Also contains data required to verify proper EGR system operation.
- Three Way Catalyst (TWC) Data - Contains information specific to the Three Way Catalyst (TWC) diagnostics and data required to verify proper TWC system operation.
- Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) - Contains information specific to the Heated Oxygen Sensor diagnostics and data required to verify proper HO2S operation.
- Misfire Data - Contains information specific to the misfire diagnostics and data required to verify proper operation with regard to misfire.
The scan tool information will assist in diagnosing emission or driveability problems. The displays can be viewed while the vehicle is being driven. Always perform the "On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check" first. The "OBD System Check" will confirm proper system operation.
With the scan tool connected, the ASR system may be disabled and the "Service ASR" lamp may turn "ON."
