System Operation
Arming the SystemThe normal arming procedures when locking the vehicle is:
- Close all windows and place shift lever in PARK.
- Turn the ignition to lock position and remove key.
- Open any door.
- Lock doors with electric switch (or use LOCK button on remote keyless entry transmitter).
- Close doors.
After approximately 30 seconds the indicator turns off, the system is now armed to sound the alarm if any tamper switch activated or "tripped".
The alarm can also be armed with the windows open. The alarm can be disarmed only when a door is opened with a key or by using the "UNLOCK" button on remote keyless entry transmitter.
When the doors are opened during the arming procedure, the security system indicator located in the instrument panel flashes intermittently to remind the driver to lock the doors and arm the system. The indicator lights steadily after the doors are locked, and goes off approximately thirty seconds after the doors have been closed. The system is now armed.
Locking Without Arming
To lock the vehicle without arming the system, simply close the doors and lock them manually with the inside lock knobs or use the key. If remaining in the vehicle, it is possible to lock the doors with the electric switch, provided the doors are closed prior to locking.
Disarming the Alarm
To disarm the system while the "SECURITY" indicator illuminates steadily and the doors are still open, move the electric door lock switch to the "UNLOCK" position. To disarm the system after it has been fully armed, unlock the door with a key from the outside or turn the ignition switch on from the inside the vehicle.
Deactivating the Alarm
To deactivate the alarm once it has been tripped (actually sounding) unlock a front door with a key or use the "UNLOCK" button on remote keyless entry transmitter.
