1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Exert inward pressure on sides of glove compartment and rotate away from instrument panel, Fig. 65.
3. Remove two screws and lift glove compartment out of instrument panel, then remove Engine Control Module (ECM) by removing its mounting bolts and disconnecting its electrical connectors.
4. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove gearshift control lever upper boot from console.
5. Remove six screws from sides of console and lift console out of vehicle.
6. Remove four center console trim bezel screws and disconnect electrical connector, then remove bezel from vehicle.
7. Remove cup holder assembly, then remove radio as described in Accessories and Optional Equipment. Refer to Radio, Stereo and Compact Disc Player. Service and Repair
8. Remove heater control unit as follows:
a. Working through glove compartment opening, disconnect cigar lighter electrical connector.
b. Remove ashtray, heater control unit knobs and righthand instrument panel cluster lower cover.
c. Gently pry heater face plate away from instrument panel, then remove heater face plate bulb socket and A/C switch.
d. Disconnect temperature, air mode and fresh/recirculation air control cables at heater and blower cases.
e. Remove heater control unit screws, then push unit toward inside of instrument panel and disconnect fan electrical connector.
f. Remove unit through radio opening.
9. Remove two screws from hood release handle assembly, then lower assembly away from instrument panel.
10. Remove steering wheel as described in appropriate Steering Wheel and Steering Column as described in Steering and Suspension / Steering. Steering
11. Remove lefthand instrument panel cluster lower cover, Fig. 65, then remove four screws securing gauge cluster bezel to instrument panel.
12. Remove gauge cluster bezel, then press on plastic tab and disconnect speedometer cable.
13. Remove gauge cluster mounting screws and disconnect electrical connectors, then remove cluster from instrument panel assembly.
14. Remove passenger's side air bag inflator module as described in Passive Restraints section.
15. Disconnect dome lamp, door speaker, blower motor, blower resistor, A/C amplifier and amplifier thermistor electrical connectors at righthand side of instrument panel.
16. Disconnect main harness, fuse box and door speaker electrical connectors at lefthand side of instrument panel, then disengage antenna cable hold-downs.
17. Remove A-pillar trim covers, then remove seven instrument panel brace bolts from door jamb A-pillar and steering column mounting areas.
18. Remove screws from upper center and lower corners of instrument panel, then remove instrument panel from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
