Vehicle Theft Deterrent System (Passlock)
(Perform before beginning System Diagnosis)
1. If the suspect vehicle does not crank, the PASSLOCK System is not at fault. Refer to STARTING AND CHARGING. Starting and Charging
2. Check bulb function of Theft Deterrent Telltale by cycling Ignition Switch to "RUN" with engine "OFF" (telltale should be "ON"). Verify vehicle complaint. If the telltale does not flash afier the vehicle has stalled, the PASSLOCK System has not been engaged and is not at fault. Refer to COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS for Driveablity and Emissions. Computers and Control Systems
3. Check the CLS/PCM, PCM, PCM/IGN, and the CLUSTER Fuse by visual inspection.
4. If multiple telltales are lit continuously, check for loss of serial data, refer to DATA LINK CONNECTOR. Data Link Connector
5. Check for engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's), refer to COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS. Computers and Control Systems
6. Check for Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Trouble Codes (DTC's), refer to Symptom Table.
- Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
- Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (see "Troubleshooting Procedures," DIAGRAMS.
- Refer to System Diagnosis. Testing and Inspection
