Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Filter Replacement:






NOTE: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace fuel filter if it is restricted. Before replacing a fuel filter it is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury when the fuel line is disconnected, cover the fuel line with a shop cloth to collect the fuel, and then place the cloth in an approved container.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure.
3. Raise and support vehicle.

Clean
Clean all in-line fuel filter connections and surrounding area before disconnecting to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.

4. Disconnect quick connect fitting at filter inlet.
5. Disconnect threaded outlet fitting from chassis fuel pipe.
6. Slide fuel filter from bracket.

Inspect
Inspect fuel pipe O-ring for cuts, nicks, swelling, or distortion. Replace if necessary.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Slide fuel filter into bracket.
2. Connect threaded outlet fitting to chassis fuel pipe and tighten fitting.

Tighten
Fitting to 30 Nm (22 lb. ft.).

3. Quick connect fitting to fuel filter inlet.
4. Lower vehicle.
5. Tighten fuel filler cap.
6. Connect negative battery cable.

INSPECT
Turn ignition switch to "ON" position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position and check for fuel leaks.
