Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

The instrument cluster assembly includes the following gages: speedometer/odometer, engine coolant temperature gage, fuel gage and an optional tachometer. These gages are all serviceable from the instrument cluster assembly. Service procedures for these gages are covered.

The speedometer head, located in the instrument cluster assembly, consists of a trip odometer and a total mileage odometer. The speedometer and odometer are mechanically driven by the speedometer cable. A vehicle speed sensor is attached to the back of the speedometer head which provides vehicle speed information to the PCM. Automatic Transaxle equipped vehicles have an additional vehicle speed sensor located on the top of the Transaxle. The speedometer, trip odometer and the total mileage odometer are all serviceable from the instrument cluster assembly.

NOTICE: When replacing a speedometer/odometer assembly, the law requires the odometer reading of the replacement unit to be set to register the same mileage as the prior odometer. If the same mileage cannot be set, the law requires that the replacement odometer be turned to zero and a label be installed on the driver's door frame to show the previous odometer reading and the date of replacement.

The instrument cluster assembly includes the following indicators: AIRBAG, oil pressure, charging system, BRAKE, seat belt, hi-beam, LH turn signal, RH turn signal, Up-shift indicator (manual Transaxle), daytime running lamps (DRL), SERVICE ENGINE SOON, ABS and ABS ACTIVE. The indicators are serviceable from the rear of the instrument cluster assembly. The instrument cluster assembly indicators may differ from model to model, depending on options.
