Keyless Entry System Operation

RPO Codes:

The Keyless Entry (KE) System allows the driver to operate the vehicle Door Locks, Illuminated Entry Lamps, Remote Alarm, and Rear Compartment Lid Release from outside the vehicle using the RKE Transmitter. The Transmitter operates in the UHF band; it sends digitally coded signals to the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR). The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver detects and decodes the signals and issues signals to the Body Control Module (BCM) for all door and lighting functions. The RCDLR sends a direct signal to the Rear Compartment Lid Release Relay. These systems can also be operated in the usual manner; for instance, the Door Locks will respond to the Door Lock Switches.

The Keyless Entry functions come with the Body Control Module type 3, or type 4. In order to check the BCM in the vehicle, you must perform the following steps:
^ Pull the MALL PGM Fuse.
^ Turn the Ignition Switch to "ACCESSORY."

The Seat Belt Indicator and Chime will activate (flash and chime) 2-4 times indicating which type of BCM is in the vehicle. Check that the BCM in the vehicle is compatible with all of the features on the vehicle. If not, place the proper BCM in the vehicle.
