Fuel Filter: Service and Repair









REMOVAL PROCEDURE

Important: There is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.

1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Raise the vehicle.
3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings. Fuel Line Coupler
4. Remove the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
7. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
2. Install the new plastic connector retainer on the in-pipe fuel filter inlet.
3. Slide the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
4. Install the in-pipe fuel filter.
5. Install the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.
- Tighten the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lb).
6. Install the quick-connect fining at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
7. Install the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
- Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter outlet nut to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
- Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
10. Install the negative battery cable.
