Mirrors: Description and Operation

The Power Mirror System has voltage applied from the PWR ACCY Fuse 7 to the Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch. Each Outside Rear-view Mirror has two reversible motors. One adjusts the mirror up and down, and the other adjusts the mirror right and left. These motors are controlled by the Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch. The Mirror Position Switch controls the polarity of the voltage to the motors. The Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch also contains a Mirror Select Switch, which directs the voltage to either the RH or LH Outside Mirror.

The Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch receives battery voltage from the PWR ACCY Fuse 7 through CKT 640 and is permanently grounded at G200. When the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror is selected, the Mirror Position Switch will control the motors of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror. When the Mirror Position Switch UP position is selected, voltage is applied to the Up/Down Motor of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror through CKT 88. Ground will be provided to the Up/Down Motor by the Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch through CKT 82 (Chevrolet) or CKT 89 (Pontiac). The Up/Down Motor in the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror will run and turn the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror up. When the Mirror Position Switch DOWN position is selected, voltage is applied to the Up/Down Motor of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror through CKT 82 (Chevrolet) or CKT 89 (Pontiac), and ground is provided through CKT 88. This will cause the Up/Down Motor to rotate in the opposite direction and turn the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror down. The Left/Right Motor of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror operates in a similar manner. When the Mirror Position Switch LEFT position is selected, voltage is applied to the Left/Right Motor of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror through the CKT 81. Ground will be provided to the Left/Right Motor by the Outside Rear-view Mirror Switch through CKT 82. The Left/Right Motor will run and turn the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror to the left. When the Mirror Position Switch RIGHT position is selected, voltage is applied to the Left/Right Motor of the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror through the CKT 82 and ground is provided through CKT 81. This will cause the Left/Right Motor to rotate in the opposite direction and turn the LH Outside Rear-view Mirror to the right.

The RH Outside Rear-view Mirror is adjusted in the same way when the Mirror Select Switch is moved to the RH position, and the appropriate position switch is operated.
