General Description
NOTICE: R-12 refrigerant and R-134a refrigerant must never be mixed, even in the smallest amounts, as they are incompatible with each other. If the refrigerants are mixed, compression failure is likely to occur. Refer to the manufacturer instruction included with the service equipment. The HVAC system delivers air that has been heated or cooled and dehumidified for occupant comfort. The HVAC system also provides the following features:
^ Power ventilation
^ Windshield defrosting
^ Side window defogging
The HVAC system blower motor draws air into the evaporator and heater core module. The forward movement of the vehicle forces additional air into the vehicle's passenger compartment. The blower motor pushes the air through the evaporator core where the air is filtered, dehumidified, and cooled to about 2°C (35°F) when the compressor is ON. Some of the air then passes through the heater core where the flow of hot coolant reheats the air. Depending on the mode selected, heated air is mixed with cool or cold are from the evaporator before entering into the passenger compartment through the air conditioning, heater, or defroster outlets. This provides positive air flow even with the windows closed.
When the MAX A/C setting is selected, most of the air entering the evaporator and heater core module is recirculated from the passenger compartment. Recirculated air is most likely cooler than the outside air in very hot weather.
