Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

Tools Required:
J 39500 A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

Remove or Disconnect

1. Recover the A/C system.
2. Negative battery cable.
3. Raise vehicle.
4. Evaporator drain tube.
5. Lines from evaporator, discarding O-rings.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Right side under dash insulator panel.
8. Electrical junction box at heater core coven
9. Left side insulator panel.
10. Steering column filler.
11. Partially remove shift console, if equipped, to gain access to floor duct and heater core cover.
12. Floor duct.
13. Heater core cover.
^ There is a mounting screw located in a recess in the center of the cover.

NOTICE: The heater core will be suspended by the heater core pipes. Do not apply any downward pressure on the core, or damage may occur to the heater core pipes.

14. Heater core shroud and straps.
15. Evaporator assembly.

Install or Connect

1. Evaporator assembly.

Tighten
^ Screw to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in).

2. Heater core shroud and straps.

Tighten
^ Screw to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in).

3. Heater core cover.

Tighten
^ Screw to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in).

4. Floor duct.
5. Steering column filler.
6. Left side insulation panel.
7. Electrical junction box to heater core cover.
8. Right side insulation panel.
9. Console.
10. Raise vehicle.
11. Evaporator lines.

Tighten
^ Inlet Fitting to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).
^ Outlet Fitting to 48 N.m (35 lb ft).

12. Drain tube.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Negative battery cable.

Tighten
^ Bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system.
