Battery Cable: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDUREWhen replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge and length.
CAUTION:
^ Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
^ Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery.
2. Remove the battery (positive) terminal bolt. Disconnect the battery (positive) cable from the battery.
3. Remove the battery (positive) cable junction block lead nut and battery (positive) cable from the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
4. Remove the battery negative cable screw and the battery ground (negative) cable from the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
5. Remove the transaxle stud nut and the battery ground (negative) cable from the transaxle stud.
6. Remove the battery (positive) cable from the starter motor BAT terminal.
7. Remove the battery cable retainers from the lower tie bar.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the battery cable retainers to the lower tie bar.
2. Install the battery (positive) cable to the starter motor BAT terminal.
3. Install the battery ground (negative) cable and the transaxle stud nut to the transaxle stud.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
Tighten
Tighten the transaxle stud nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
4. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable and the battery negative cable screw to the frame rail near the junction block.
Tighten
Tighten the battery negative cable screw to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
5. Connect the battery (positive) cable and the battery (positive) cable junction block lead nut to the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
Tighten
Tighten the battery (positive) cable nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
6. Connect the battery (positive) cable to the battery using the battery (positive) terminal bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the battery (positive) terminal bolt to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
7. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery.
