Troubleshooting Hints

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will Inhibit Cruise Control when there is a malfunction in any of the Cruise Control Inhibit Criteria. The PCM will Inhibit Cruise Control when:
^ The engine is off.
^ An automatic transmission is in the PARK or NEUTRAL positions.
^ A manual transmission is out of gear (in the NEUTRAL position).
^ There is high engine rpm (fuel Cut-Off).
^ There is high vehicle speed (fuel Cut-Off).
^ The Enhanced Traction System (ETS) is active.
^ The PCM sets certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) or other failure records. Refer to Diagnostic System Check in Engine Controls. Computers and Control Systems
1. Check all cruise control inhibit criteria.
2. Check for DTCs. Refer to Engine Controls. Computers and Control Systems
3. Check that Cruise Control Module Linkage is connected and moving freely.
4. Check Cruise Cable Adjustment.
5. Check Brake Switch for proper adjustment/alignment.
^ Make sure that High Mounted Stop lamp (HMSL) is working. If inoperative, Cruise Module will be disabled.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove good in a continuity/voltage check. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures.
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may effect the integrity of other systems. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures. Diagnostic Aids
