Troubleshooting Hints - Interior Lights
NOTE:^ The Multi-Function Alarm Module will go to sleep 3 or 20 minutes after key off depending if the vehicle has travelled over 24 km (15 miles). Until the Multi-Function Alarm Module goes to sleep, it will draw 60-80ma. Once the Multi-Function Alarm Module goes to sleep, the amperage draw will drop to 3-15ma.
^ Interrupting battery voltage to the Multi-Function Alarm Module by disconnecting the vehicle's battery or disconnecting the module will cause the interior lamps-on delay to be only two to four minutes and cause parasitic power shut down in three days, until the vehicle has travelled more than 24 km (15 miles) with battery lower restored to the module.
^ The Multi-Function Alarm Module controls Interior Lamps and generates chime alarms, refer to Audible Warning Device. Verify all chime alarms operate before proceeding with following diagnostic tests. If any chime alarms do not operate, refer to Audible Warning Device. Audible Warning Device
1. If only one light does not operate, check bulb and related wiring.
2. Check that the Multi-Function Alarm Module is properly seated.
3. If Interior Lamps are intermittently inoperative, check that there are no Interior Lamps left on, especially the Luggage Compartment and I/P Compartment Lamps.
4. If none of the Courtesy Lamps work from the Keyless Entry transmitter, but are otherwise OK, refer to Keyless Entry. Keyless Entry
5. If none of the Interior Lamps operate, check for an open or a short in the 1732 circuit. If OK, replace the Multi-Function Alarm Module. Refer to Multi-Function Alarm Assembly in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
6. If Interior Lamps do not come on when the Right Front, or one or both of the rear doors are opened, check for an open in the 395 circuit. If OK, replace the suspect Door Jamb Switch. Refer to Door Jamb Switch in Doors. Doors, Hood and Trunk
7. If the Interior Lamps do not turn off within 22 minutes after driving more than 24 km (15 miles) and turning the Ignition Switch to the OFF position, disconnect the Multi-Function Alarm Module. If the Interior Lamps go out, replace the Multi-Function Alarm Module. Refer to Multi-Function Alarm Assembly in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console. If not, check circuit 1732 for a short to B+ and reset the Multi-Function Alarm Module by disconnecting the INT LAMP Fuse.
8. If the INT LAMP Fuse opens continuously, remove the Multi-Function Alarm Module connector C2 and check for a short to ground in the 340, 1732 and 1733 circuits. If OK, replace the Multi-Function Alarm Module. Refer to Multi-Function Alarm Assembly in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console. Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators
^ Refer to Multi-Function Alarm Assembly in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console for Multi-Function Alarm Module access.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures. Diagnostic Aids
