Housing Assembly HVAC: Service and Repair

HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling, and Recharging Station

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the A/C system. Service and Repair
3. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
5. Remove the drain tube elbow from the heater core cover.
6. Remove the bolt from behind the steering gear and from the sides of the heater core inlet/outlet.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Remove the bolts from the driver's side of the blower case.
9. Remove the Instrument Panel (IP) tie bar assembly.
10. Remove the screws which secure the floor outlet.
11. Remove the floor outlet.
Turn the outlet clockwise and to the right in order to release the outlet from the rear floor air outlet.
12. Remove the screw and the clips that retain the windshield defroster duct.
Remove the windshield defroster duct.
13. Remove the vacuum harness from the vacuum actuators.





14. Remove the nuts which attach the HVAC module to the dashboard.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling, and Recharging Station





1. Position the HVAC module into the vehicle.
2. Install the nuts which attach the HVAC module to the dashboard.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Position the windshield defroster duct. Install the clips and the screw.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1 Nm (9 lb in).

4. Install the tie bar assembly to the instrument panel.
5. Install the bolts to the driver's side of the blower case.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 3 Nm (27 lb in).

6. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
7. Install the drain tube elbow to the heater core cover.
8. Install the heater hoses to the heater core.
9. Install the bolts behind the steering gear and to the sides of the heater core inlet/outlet.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 3 Nm (27 lb in).

10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the floor outlet. Secure the floor outlet with the screws.
Verify for proper engagement to the rear floor air outlet.
12. Install the vacuum harness to the vacuum actuators.
13. Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
14. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
