Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

STOPLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the driver side instrument panel insulator.
2. Disconnect the electrical connection (1) from the stoplamp switch.
3. Remove the stoplamp switch retainer (2). Grasp and turn the retainer 90 degrees counter-clockwise and pull the retainer towards the rear of the vehicle.





4. Remove stop lamp switch (1).

Installation Procedure





1. Insert the stoplamp switch (1) into the retainer until the switch body seats on the retainer.





2. Pull the brake pedal upward against the internal pedal stop.
^ For the diagnosis of the stoplamp circuit, refer to Stop Lamps Inoperative - All in Lighting Systems.
^ For adjustment of the stoplamp, refer to Stoplamp Switch Adjustment.

3. Turn the switch 90 degrees clockwise in order to lock the switch into position.





4. Connect the electrical connection to the stoplamp switch.
5. Install the driver side instrument panel insulator.
