Radiator Cooling Fan: Service and Repair

Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric (LD8)

^ Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove the upper tie bar.
3. Drain the coolant.
4. Remove the engine oil cooler line bracket to fan shroud bolt.
5. Remove the engine oil cooler line bracket.





6. Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipe bracket to fan shroud bolt.
7. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler (TOC) line from the radiator.





8. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors (1) from the fan motors.
9. Using the J 38185, reposition the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
10. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
11. Remove the 2 cooling fan mounting bolts.
12. Remove the lower TOC line from the radiator. Tilt the cooling fans toward the engine to access the TOC line nut.





13. Lift the fan assembly off the lower holding tabs.
14. Remove the fan assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the fan assembly.
2. Insert the fan assembly into the lower radiator holding tabs.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the lower TOC line to the radiator. Tilt the cooling fans toward the engine to access the TOC line.
^ Tighten the fitting to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the electric cooling fan mounting bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
5. Install the radiator outlet hose to the radiator.
6. Using the J 38185, reposition the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.





7. Raise the vehicle.
8. Install the engine oil cooler bracket to the fan shroud.
9. Install the engine oil cooler bracket bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





10. Connect the wiring harness electrical connectors (1) to the fan motors.





11. Install the upper TOC line to the radiator.
12. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe bracket to fan shroud bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
13. Fill the cooling system.
14. Install the upper tie bar.
15. Connect the battery negative cable.
