Electrical - Trip Odometer Self Resets at 655.35 Miles

INFORMATION

Bulletin No.: 10-08-49-005

Date: October 21, 2010

Subject: Trip Odometer Self Resets to 0 at 655.35 Miles (1054.68 km)

Models:
2004-2006 Pontiac GTO

Customer Concern

Some customers may comment that the trip odometer resets to zero after 655.35 miles (1054.68 km) have accumulated on the Trip A or Trip B odometer.

Important
The vehicle standard odometer is not part of this customer concern and continues to accrue and display total vehicle accumulated mileage.

Scan Tool Data

If a technician views trip odometer values on the diagnostic scan tool, the viewed data may not match what is displayed on the instrument panel cluster (IPC) trip odometer. The scan tool may continue to read the actual accumulated trip mileage past the 655.35 miles (1054.68 km) IPC reset point up to a value of 9999. This discrepancy between data on the scan tool vs. the IPC has led some technicians to replace the vehicle IPC.

IPC Trip Odometer

DO NOT replace the IPC. Engineering has investigated the concern and the design of the IPC limits the displayed trip odometer mileage to a maximum of 655.35 miles (1054.68 km). This is a normal characteristic of the current design. No repairs should be performed for this concern. Replacing the IPC WILL NOT alleviate this concern.
