CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE/MALFUNCTIONING
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
IMPORTANT: Perform the following in order to avoid misdiagnosis.
- Inspect for proper operation of the brake lamps.
- Inspect the throttle linkage for mechanical binding which could cause the system to malfunction.
- Inspect the cruise control cable adjustment. It should have minimum slack.
- Inspect for stored DTCs in the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information. Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
- When testing vehicles equipped with steering wheel controls, the steering wheel must be rotated to each stop position while testing the cruise control switch signal circuits. This will ensure the integrity of the SIR coil.
